The Indo-Aryan's Sanskrit name for Astrology is Jyotish, which means 'Science of Light', or 'Science of Energy'.

It is considered of Divine origin, revealed to 18 sages, about 4,500 years ago. The most known are: Sage Parashara, Jaimini and Garga. It was passed down orally in an almost uninterrupted fashion from generation to generation.
